Back with a new beater! 240d for $800

Just sold my Volvo today for $1400 and picked up this 240d for $800. Good day.

Crusty, beat up, 4 speed, manual everything (but electric sliding roof?).

Plans? Drive it into the ground.

Sweet! I'm scared by the veggie oil sticker on the back, though.

Really, it's less beat up than my old wagon. The passenger side of the car got hit pretty hard. The doors are dented in and pushed back. The driver's side buttcheek is completely rusted out.

I checked the floors with a screwdriver though, and everything looks okay.

I'll be running bio diesel. This was never run on homebrew veg, as far as I know. Hipsters who buy these cars just love to advertise their hipness. The sticker will be going.

Think a 300d turbodiesel exhaust, straight pipped from the resonator back would be overkill?

When I initially picked mine up, the down pipe was completely shot. I replaced it myself and drove it a few miles down the road for the exhaust shop to chop out the center section to straight pipe it back to the relatively new muffler. Let me tell you, the drive down there was absolute comedy as the sound was DEAFENING. I am talking NASCAR track, car alarms, reverberation off the buildings. It was all grins the whole way. Once the system was hooked up, it still growled nicely and had nice giddyup.

That being said, in contrast currently run a 68' Volvo 142 with just the center resonator, no muffler as it was all rusted out. The tone is similar, but a little louder and drones a lot more on the highway as the restriction is directly below the cab. I also notice that it seems to lack a little bit of the off the line torque that should be there and attribute it to the change in backpressure from a lack of rear muffler.

Long story short, recommend the center resonator delete over the muffler delete, unless you really want to drown out the ricers.

Poor car, yet another victim of the hippies-running-dirty-veg-oil crowd.

Nope. Would have been nice if it had.

Picked up another beater today. Too cheap to pass up. Ended up giving 600 for it. I have no need for two cars, but I'm not yet sure which will be going.

peel the hubcaps offhand see if those wheels are steel or the lightweight aluminum steel lookalikes

you can use a magnet and the aluminums had a silver line around the raised center of the wheel

they would be worth the price you paid for the car!!!!
