Torx or Allen bolts on Starter ...83 300D
Started doing a starter R&R on my 83 300D. I got to the point where I need to remove the two big bolts. All the write-ups I've read said 10 mm Allen, yet after 45 minutes of messing around I took a paper towel and pressed it into the bolt head opening, to my surprise I saw the familiar Star pattern of a Torx head, rather than the Hex shape of an Allen head.
So my questions are, Is this some sort of retrofit? Is it common to see this? and What size it this puppy? Has anyone seen this before?

Hmmm it's possible I guess, since you see it. all the ones I've pulled have been allen hex 10mm... if it's a 6 point star then it is likely a 55 torx, if it's a 12 point star then it's likely a 8mm or 10 mm xzn bolt... any chance you can snap a picture of the bolt?
