OM602 swap into Jeep

Hey,

I posted a brief summary of my build on another forum. It crosses over here too. I swapped out a 2.5L gas engine for a 1991 300D 2.5L turbo diesel engine.

Here is a picture of the OM602 in the jeep.

Here is the link to the brief history.
Jeep Diesel Swap - Jeep Wrangler Forum

The last few items remaining are wiring a starter button, the auxialliary fan, water temp. and oil pressure guages. I am adding a boost guage and probably a EGT.

A lot of little items left, but she runs on the blocks and we shall see about on the road. LOL.

The radiator hoses are on backwards. Or does the pump spin the other way?

So how's the performance?

Noticed on your thread you said you wished you had gone with the OM617 for ease of adaptors. Now that its in, do you think the OM617 would perform better than the OM602?

Hey Walkenvol,

I think the om602 will do somewhat better, but it's hard to say exactly. You can look at what the turbo 617 and the 602 are on paper. I wanted better fuel mileage and low-end torque. I got this motor and they did the top end of the motor, new head, turbo, etc.

I just had a power steering pump hose fail and I have to go to shop to get another hose made.

Add to the 2 hours spent chasing wiring, when it turned out the brand new starter button was bad. Replaced it and now the hose. I have a small oil leak that I will fix now too.

I am going to put a heat-shield around the battery because it is so close to the turbo.

I read your threads, too bad you aren't closer.

I think a 617 would provide better low end torque....from driving both thats my opinion....
