1980 300CD for sale on local CL - 53,000 miles!

My, oh my:

1980 Mercedes-Benz 300CD Coupe Diesel 57,000 miles Original Owner

Doesn't look like a Turbo model, but boy doesn't that look clean!? Original owner, too, but what a price, though -

Blue interior. If Merc had never made blue interior, I'd be much happier.

Given what 18K could get you in the used car market, even the used mercedes market, that price is ridiculous. You could probably buy a beater W123 and pay somebody else to retore it to an equivelant status and still not pay half of that.

"One owner" benz prices are absurd to the point that I automatically ignore them if I was looking for another one.

Low mileage thirty year old cars are another red flag for me. Either the odometer is screwed, the seller is dishonest, or it sat in storage for decades and every hose, seal etc. Is buggered and lots of things will be "frozen" and will all start failing soon after regular use.

Bought my first 123, a 77 300d from a guy just up the street from there. Less than 60k miles also. Paid $3k or $4k for it. Non-turbo in CO is not a good idea. It's why the 77 I bought had such low mileage and I'm guessing it's a similar situation with the CD. He got tired of driving over the passes at 20mph.

Way to much coin for a non turbo model with the horrible evil servo unit....and I agree with the others, blue interior is not Mercedes best....but least its not baby blue exterior and blue interior...that's enough blue, to leave me blue.....I often wonder why black interior Mercedes, are so hard to come by....

Yeah, I'm afraid the demand for diesels is much weaker than these sellers realize. Time will show that ...

bunts on a NA... leather interior still in good shape is very rare, so I'll bet it's really low miles, the dash wood is zebrano not burlwood, so not sure it's original, but it may only be the turbo models that are burl... blue dash not cracked, so it's been garaged. no underbody pics... hiding rust?

Its on eBay as well, with a higher price tag and a lot more photos...

Mercedes-Benz : 300-Series 300 CD in Mercedes-Benz | eBay Motors

Add my commits to the more photos....

Dash is cracked...
Car is running a tad hot....
Original main fuel filter...
Original primer pump....
Some grime under the hood that I wouldn't suspect...aka power steering pump...
Original plastic servo...
Knee panel screw covers missing, indication someone's been behind the cluster...
Door handle worn out...
Front windscreen gasket appears to have a crack,,.
Something going on with chrome passenger side window molding...
Carpets a little more worn then I would expect...

X2 The next thing worse than abuse is non use. A good two hour blast at greater than 55/MPH every other month does wonders.

If it's been in CO it's whole life, it wont have any rust.

That looks like MBTEX to me and the fleabay add shows cracks in the dash and a rip at the arm rest. Looks like an excellent restoration to me.
