No warning lights except battery indicator

Hello,

Some of you might have read another post that i put up recently , asking for help. It was about the climate control unit making the needle of the temp. gauge jump up . Trying to figure out why it would do that, I undid the instrument cluster and since it was out and a lot of the connections on the board looked like they needed re-soldering, I re flowed them .

Now when i went to reconnect it, I put in the 15-pin connector in wrong. That was because the plastic guide pin ( being very very brittle for some reason) had broken off when i was taking it off. There was a little smell that seemed like an electrical component was burning . I took it off right away . I opened it up and checked everything to see if there was any burn marks or obvious signs of damage i might have caused. Nothing.

I plugged it back in, this time being careful not to miss-align the pins ( i marked them properly with a big marker ) and everything seemed to be working fine.

Except, there were no warning lights except the big battery sign lit up. The right side of the panel lit up fine ( glow plug and washer but no warning lights ( brakes, ABS , Low coolant etc ) , did not light up at all .

I checked the lights by pulling up the hand brake lever and the indicator did glow meaning the circuit is intact and working. Since the battery light is on, the alternator is not charging ( I dont think its the other way around as the alternator was working fine before this happened ) .

Any knowledge of which components i should look at ? Any way to test the warning circuit ? I am poring over the W201 manual looking at the electrical trouble shooting manual , but right now, i am not getting anywhere.
