UGH, stick it through. Hope your health is not affected. One can't get reimbursed for problems in the future that don't show up immediately.

that sux, godspeed with your insurance claim and back pain.

i recently priced out a couple of stated value policies for my benz. they were 50% more expensive than my current policy but at home the car would have to be stored off the street. (maybe when i clean my garage out that will happen!)

Yup, that's one downside of owning great vintage cars. Unless they are show cars that qualify for stated value policies, one is at the mercy of fate and insurance companies.

stay well !

The wagons have certainly gone up in value since I sold it to you.

Fresh paint, rebuilt front end, and like you said, everything worked. One of the smoothest running 617s I've driven. Jimmy and I were discussing it not long ago and he remarked it was the only MB he owned that did not use oil.

Also, are you trying to provoke Jimmy, the PO, with that thread title?

Oh my goodness!!!! That was always the best running Mercedes I ever owned, and it drove so nicely!!! I just can't believe such a totally rust free example will be lost.
I spent so much time with that car. Just a shame........

Any pics of it post-accident?

Sorry Jimmy,
My daughter has taken pics I will try later this week to load them. I had just replaced the rear spheres and she was like riding on a cloud. My daughters friends were also upset they loved the fact you could load up 7 people. She had nick named it GG for grocery getter.
Wife wants it gone can't stand to see it sitting there twisted.

Sorry about this. I too have a white TD-T.

How do you know it is a total loss? Too far to pull, right?

So, you are not going to buy it back?

If it was hit forward of the front tire, it should be repairable, in my experience. My wife's 96 Voyager was hit there and shoved over ~4" and I am driving it today 100,000 miles later. I can take my hands off the wheel on the highway and it goes perfectly straight, and I did all wheel alignments myself. I expect your lower frame and suspension is all in the correct place and just the radiator support and fenders were shoved over. The main thing mechanically is to get the UCA mounting position back where it should be.

I just bought a HF 10-ton porta-power clone and braced the vehicle in my concrete garage and pressed the front-end back over. The tricky part is that you must over-press since it springs back. I finally got the top strut mount in the correct place. That is a FWD, with more issues (tranny case also broken at top). A new fender was $70 plus paint. I would have let a shop handle it, but GEICO scr**ed us. Both drivers had GEICO and they said, "both equally at fault, so under GA law we don't have to pay anybody". Really, at a stop light w/ cars at 90 degrees? I sued, but our wimpy lawyer wouldn't take to trial and settled for $2500.

Whatever you do, insist that you will be buying it back as a parts car, and at the least you'll have your bits.

If the interior is as good as the outside. I wonder if they might fix it. Perhaps not with the depreciated overall value with a body repair. I think that is another factor of why today they write off cars so easily.

I would forget your 6 grand buying receipt and other paperwork. A decent paint job alone can consume that much. That car is worth more or it would be to me. I am not sure just how much an equivelant car in that condition would really cost. I think your adjuster is well aware. This indicated when he tried to tell you the paint was scratched not related to the accident.

The inner fenders are buckeled the hood is split, the hinges are bent, the passenger door needs to be replace the front bumper looks like it is over a inch or two the head light doors are cracked as are the 2 headlights and both front fenders are goners. It is more than I am willing to deal with. I have promised the spare tire to a friend with an 84 wagon for some reason he wants a steel wheel. The bumper hitch goes to another friend as soon as I look to see what it takes to remove it.
Back is still stiff went to Doctor today will have to do exercises 3 times a day and visit 2 times a week. Not sure how long that will go on. He said I have lower and upper back whiplash.
And the guy told his insurance is was only going 10mph yeah right!

That's just bad news all around! I hope you feel better.

If you do part it out, let us know first. Wagon parts are so hard to find in FL that I'd hate to see them just go to the crusher!!

Insurance companies will rob you on these older cars. Sorry to hear about your bad week! Just get better.

Some if they can. That may be why you have to make it up on the personal injury side.

If they are trying to beat you it is fair play in my mind. Otherwise all too often they prevail. I am not a crook but got fed up with insurance adjusters years ago. At the same time there are many fair adjusters out there as well. So I have put it down to just being the luck of the draw. Ours overall has not been that great.
