Hood Popper Pull Thing

So I went to pop the hood tonight, and the plastic hood popper in the grille came off in my hand.

Has anyone made a replacement part for these out of metal or some other less UV-prone material?

FYI, these are really cheap new.

I see them on eBay for $5 but shipping to Canuck-o-topia is like $20.

A Mercedes grade tent peg is replacing the hood popper for the time being. It stows nicely in the glove box. I have some teak in the garage awaiting boat projects. I may try making a replacement on the band saw.

Oh I know where you are, I'm just down the road in Kanuckistan.

The ones on eBay are probably URO anyway. Which means your parking brake will disintegrate, your grille will turn upside down and your gauges needles will all fall off, about a week after you install it.

You no got anyone who sells import parts in the GTA? As I recall I only paid a bit more than that eBay price, last time I bought one from the local parts place.

Best to get from the dealer. Üro will cause your car to have other issues because it will reject the Üro part.

All you need to do is comb CL and find a good complete parts car of the same body style that has this part and buy it. You'll save money in the long run

Zacharias - I found a euro-parts guy in Mississauga. To drive there would take as long as to drive up and have a beer with you.

I love Toronto traffic

Anyways, he has the original for $10 - just asking for the part # to confirm. Need to go Googling for that now.

D'oh! Apparently the part is on here - anyone know how to calculate shipping to Canada when Pelican Parts won't allow you to enter a Postal Code?

I have seen more than one W123 with a coat hanger peeping out from under the top of the grill. I keep a long flathead screwdriver as part of my Standard Mercedes Survival Kit just for the hood release

From memory, you have to proceed to the final stage of checkout to see the Canada pricing for shipping... or maybe there is a box you haven't checked off.

You won't like the minimum shipping charge from PP. If you want to go that route, best idea is to add a batch of filters, etc., onto the order to make the shipping charge pay.

I just spoke to my local supplier. She will mail it to you for actual Cda Post cost and the cost $9.50. I forgot to ask her what brand. PM me if you want her info (she will take the order by phone).

I just ordered on here Zacharias - using the 1-888 number I was able to get it shipped USPS for $5.

Total cost is going to be a whopping $8.50 or so.

Going to have to cancel Christmas now.

That's really good, kudos to PP for being flexible on the shipping charge.

I fixed the one on my 84 w/ loops of stainless steel wire, which looked OK and would probably never break, but then I found they cost ~$7 so ordered 2 and made it look right.
