which line is the 'return'? the higher one or the lower one. My guess is the upper but I want just make sure.

I plan on changing the fluid this weekend.

Yes, reference the pump. Fluid is returned to the reservoir.

If your return hose is original, any flexing will possibly lead to its demise.
