New guy from VA here. 2 1985 300d's

Hey guys, after silently stalking this site for a couple years now finally registered. Lots of great advice here and surprised to see a lot of you guys in my area. I live in Culpeper VA and commute daily up to Reston for work. Currently have 2 85' 300d's and will have a 3rd here in the next week or so. 1 is my DD with 163k, white on palomino. And my other is a parts car with 218k, silver with a henna interior. I will be posting some threads in the classified section once I get my post count up but I am looking to part out my parts car. Really would love to keep the interior but need a driver seat so if anyone knows of any henna mb TeX seats in the area please let me know! And with that, anyone know if a good 123 junkyard in VA? Thanks guys

Welcome fellow Virginian.

The local yards, to me, are far away from you.

I don't fully understand, you want to part out your henna parts car interior, yet are looking for a henna drivers seat?

Have yet to see a henna interior in person. They're rare.

Sorry should have been more clear. I want to part out my parts car but would love to keep and swap the henna interior into my DD. The palomino isn't in terrible shape but is faded to that nice pink hue. The henna interior is borderline pristine except for the torn drivers seat. I am just having a hard time justifying the work to swap in an interior that has a torn seat. I'm starting to realize its kind of a rare color because I can't find any seats to save my life! Lol

Welcome to the party. Hopefully we'll have a GTG and can meet.

Welcome to the group! Greater Washington Section MBCA is pretty active and we also have the annual super GTG at Chad's in Philly every August or September.

Awesome, thanks a lot guys. That sounds like a good time. Look forward to being part of the group and chipping away at getting my ride ironed out.

Also while I have some of the locals attention, anyone have a spare 617 turbo motor for sale? I'm actually also gathering parts for a swap into my 87 4runner.

I've never done it but I hear dying a seat works well. Your henna seats are prolly faded so if you coat them all they will look good and you can use the palamino seat you have.

I dyed my Palomino leather seats and they came out beautiful. I have also dyed MB tex seats with the same results. I used dye from a company in Milford, Pa called Color Plus. The secret to a good job is to make sure the material is very clean. I dyed my seats using a soft bristle brush - no brush marks, no streaks, exact color match.

Did you have to take them out to do it?

I also wanted to second the dye idea. If you are good with an aerosol can. SEM has a dead on color match and so Leatherique which is an even better kit. The key is the preparation. If you were to dye your Palomino and it were to be MB Tex for instance I find Simple Green to be a great way to clean it. Yes, it sounds like a bad idea but I have great results in the past. It is important to spray a god protectant on it afterwards though with something like Aerospace 303 protectant. I wouldn't recommend Simple Green on real leather though and would say it is a HUGE no. The options are always available. I have great knowledge in upholstery restoration and working with what you have. So PM if you are interested in the leatherique or SEM and I can point you in the right directions for the color code #'s.

Check out this post on using the dye. It came out great and there are a few more posts in the thread as well about the dye.

Man you guys have the wheels turning in my head now! Ok I know this is a dumb question but whats a surefire way to id if you have leather or mbtex? I just ran across that russian vin decoder to be sure on my color and it came back as 254- Palomino Leather. Other car is 157 henna red mb tex. I was thinking that that my palomino was mbtex but im not that great at identifying fabrics.

Cut a little piece off the seat bottom edges and light it with a match. Burning rubber smell is very distinctive.
