Jumped my rheostat for dash lights, now temp gauge pegs 120!?

So after 4 years of jiggling my dimmer switch to get the dash light on, the spin switch stopped working. I jumped a wire across the rheostat and the dash light now works however I noticed that my temp gauge is pegged at 120 C! Did I short something in the instrument panel?

Does it do this only when the lights are turned on?

Sounds like a bad ground connection or your short-grounded the temp gauge somehow...

I seem to recall that happening when I was working on my cluster. I am only way out, but maybe a search of my name, cluster and temperature gauge will bring the up the thread. I recall that it was just a bad connection of some type.

Well, back to normal. Don't know what really happened as my son drives this car most of the time nowadays. Thanks for the input.

I spoke too soon, still have the problem. The temp starts off normal, then creeps up and pegs 120 within a couple of minutes of driving! I guess i will try to check the connections again and maybe install a another ground wire. This happens whether the lights are on or off, coolijjay.
