stretched /broken accelerator cable.

so i did my motor mounts...it appears i have stretched the accelerator cable.
barely any pedal at all now...and the threaded part that thread into the throttle bracket on top of the engine is broken..it may have been borken before im not sure..how hard is this job accelerator cable replacement. this cable was on my preventative maintenance list ...

edit..it wasn't stretched...but i bent the arm near the steering pump part of the linkage...straightened it out
still wan to replace the cable..was looking for tips on replacing it

Does your Year and Model have a Knob that controls the Idle Speed inside of the Car?

I do not have that Knob on My Year and Model but I do have a Bodwen Cable attached to the Valve Cover Linkages. I have no Cable connected to the Acclerator Pedal or other linkages other than the Bodwn Cable and that is to control the Transmission Shift Points.

Which one is the Cable Connected to or do you have 2 Cables?

Do you mean the pedal doesn't want to move? Or that you press on the pedal and there is no response from the motor? "Barely any pedal" doesn't describe anything in particular when used in the context of the go pedal.

Assuming your '82 has an '82 motor in it, your car doesn't have an accelerator cable or an idle control cable. The throttle pedal moves linkages that connect to the injection pump. The cable that runs off the linkages on top of the valve cover is the Bowden cable, which runs down to the transmission and controls shift points.

Can you take a pic of what you say is broken (or find a pic using google of the area)?

That is what I was wondering about. If He has a Bodwen Cable maybe that is what He is speaking of.

Possible a bad throttle pivot mount?

We do need photos to get an idea of what you're talking about.

pics tomorrow..thanx guys
there is a long threaded screw adjustment that is by the throttle bracket? this goes to a cable that goes down along the fire wall...the actual screw part is broken off from the adjustment nut..
i can drive fine..but the gas pedal travel seems much farther than it should be

edit: after reading others responses..is its def the bowden cable...my shift points are weird flareing etc...but not awful
where cna i buy this? is it hard to replace? searched for it on the interwebs...didnt see anything

this is not my actual cable.
but where the thread and the nut join mine is broken and completely seperated.
so i cannot adjust to looser or tighter. :p

Mercedes calls it a transmission cable or kickdown cable.

The part number should be: 1263001730.

There is a seal as well, where it enters the transmission: 0089975848.

This thread may help: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/228844-bowden-cable-replacement-procedure.html
