I purchased a 1987 300 S DL last September. It supposedly had the head repaired and replaced the year before. I drove for approximately a month with absolutely no problems, and then all of a sudden the temperature gauge rose. I stopped the car immediately and investigated and found out that the clutch fan had decided not to work. Once the car cooled I drove it home but notice now it is smoking. I'm hoping for the best being a head gasket but am ready for the worst. My problem is that I cannot find any procedural information, manuals on the R&R of the head on this vehicle. I have purchased a couple online CD manuals and find them totally useless. I have looked for a Bentley manual but they are not producing it anymore and I have put many ads looking for a manual or any procedural information on R & R the head on my 300 sdl. I'm hoping you folks can help me, with any information as to a reliable and useful manual I could buy, a website I can go to, or I would be willing to purchase information on torque specifications timing chain alignment and such from anybody that has good information that can help me. I have rebuilt many VW motors but this is my first venture into a Mercedes. I would like to be driving the car in a couple weeks and I have all the repair parts ready to go, but I just would feel more secure in doing the job if I had a little more detailed information. I can be contacted at
