300 sdl help required

I purchased a 1987 300 S DL last September. It supposedly had the head repaired and replaced the year before. I drove for approximately a month with absolutely no problems, and then all of a sudden the temperature gauge rose. I stopped the car immediately and investigated and found out that the clutch fan had decided not to work. Once the car cooled I drove it home but notice now it is smoking. I'm hoping for the best being a head gasket but am ready for the worst. My problem is that I cannot find any procedural information, manuals on the R&R of the head on this vehicle. I have purchased a couple online CD manuals and find them totally useless. I have looked for a Bentley manual but they are not producing it anymore and I have put many ads looking for a manual or any procedural information on R & R the head on my 300 sdl. I'm hoping you folks can help me, with any information as to a reliable and useful manual I could buy, a website I can go to, or I would be willing to purchase information on torque specifications timing chain alignment and such from anybody that has good information that can help me. I have rebuilt many VW motors but this is my first venture into a Mercedes. I would like to be driving the car in a couple weeks and I have all the repair parts ready to go, but I just would feel more secure in doing the job if I had a little more detailed information. I can be contacted at ccmib@shaw.ca and I thank all of you very kindly for your help.

If you can get to www.startekinfo.com from where you are, click on MB workshop resources then service manual library. Select model 124 service library from the list then load 124 disc 1 and find the section for 1987 300D which has the same engine as your SDL then proceed to the engine mechanical section. Let the pages load completely before selecting or it will make random selections. This is the most relevant section - http://www.startekinfo.com/StarTek/outside/12264/Program/Engine/602_603/01-5800hx.pdf but there might be steps along way you want to review.
