1997 mercedes e 300 diesel - engine light on

1997 Mercedes e 300 d
I got diagnosed by local Mercedes dealer about my in dash "engine light on"...they say I need to replace Egr valve and intake switch over valve ..almost $1800 in labor and parts.I can replace those myself.Do I really have to?

Re: EGR - search this forum for "EGR Bypass" or maybe "606 EGR bypass". It's an easy mod. Legally, the dealer cannot bypass it and has to actually fix it.

As for the intake switchover valve - if the dealer's diagnosis is correct, then yes, you will have to replace it for the check engine to go off.

I've had to deal with both of these issues on my '97.
