W210 '99 E300 HVAC issue

No AC. Only runs in economy mode aka no AC.

Eb1 231
E FF

Are the codes.

If you know what those are and can help, great.

Or, there is a sight somewhere that tells you for a fee what needs to be done, can't seem to find that link.

Thanks guys. Mercifully have not needed to post for a long time.

Its the ECT (coolant temp) sensor.

Try erasing and see if the compressor will start up again. If it does and the code doesn't return the sensor is probably ok and just lost communication due to low voltage.

OK, yes it sat most of the extreme winter and had to get charged.

Now to figure out how to clear the code.

Going back through this, how do you reset any codes?

I'm presuming it is via the HVAC somehow, but do not see that anywhere.

Thanks, that is EXACTLY the link I could not find. Now, my brother needs to return the charger from my shop that I loaned him last week...

Hoping that is the only issue here.

Finally found the rest procedure... Reset and ...

No codes, AC back on. Likely needs to be evacuated and recharged for real once, but that is WAY cheaper than the alternative.

Thanks Terry, you have helped me out yet again.

After 15 years most of these systems leak some I'd guess. Toward the end, mine started to need part of a can of refrigerant every spring. Pretty cheap compared to replacing hoses.

Recharging it is not my "thing". Would you suggest MB Dealer or is a complete evac and recharge something a "local" shop could be trusted to do? Worried that if I roll in there MB will want to replace everything. But I don't want it screwed up either.

Thanks.

A competent mechanic who works on AC's ought to be able to evacuate and recharge it.

I wouldn't spend money trying to find a leak if it were me.

Well took it to an import shop. Owner said the tech needed to chat with the guy with the E300...

Great...

So they evacuated it and held a vacuum for a couple hours. Recharged it... but the problem was, he wanted to buy it. Still way too much fun to drive
