!@#$@% ABS sensor broke off in diff.

Everything has been going swimmingly well with my drivetrain project. The replacement ASD diff had an ABS sensor already mounted and was stiff to get out. Figured I would pull it after mounting. Well it broke off on the outside. I went through half my drill bits last night trying to drill in well enough to get bight with a screw to pull it out. Any suggestions?

Thinking about pulling the diff out and using a slide hammer but without any bite....

The ABS sensor is at the snout. You know I didn't even think about that, there might be enough space in there. Looks like I will pull it tonight and see.

I've got one in my parts washer that came from jay bobs car... I'm pretty sure we pushed it out because it was stuck fast.

Clean the bejesus out of it, lots of brake spray and lots of penetrating oil...
It's only grit on the outside holding it in.

And an o-ring about halfway down the tube. That sensor was seriously stuck in there!

I'd try heating the diff case up...

When we changed my diff, we removed the sensor from the existing diff and left it connected to the car. It came out without too much difficulty.

The diff we ended up using was from your 93 2.5 car. That sensor was much more difficult to remove, and I think it took a lot of patience and AeroKroil.

Both times the sensors were removed from the outside.

I am not sure how you would "tap it out from the inside" the reluctor wheel is right next to the sensor and you would have to remove the tail shaft of the diff to get to that area.

Negative on getting the sensor from the inside. There is no way you can get it without pressing out the pinion.
Your best bet is to have to drill in a meaty area, screw in a lag bolt or something to hook it up to a slide hammer and slide hammer it out.

Thats what I have been trying without luck. Thinking about just forgetting about it for now until I get tired of not having ABS.

How close it it to the tonewheel inside? Could you hammer it in just a little bit to break it free?

before attempting to screw something into it... CLEAN the thing mightily ... once you deform it with a screw, it's going to be really really really hard to get out.
