diesel injector pump

Hi there,
I have a 190D 601 1991 model four cylinder merc. this car does not start easily with a single 12V battery even if I have a gear reduction stater motor.I have new heater plugs and the system works as the heater plugs do glow. If it is towed it will run okay no vibrations etc. I have tested the compression and its okay, the timing is as should be i.e. Camshaft to Crankshaft the precise positions and the diesel pump at 15 degrees After T.D.C. I have sent the pump for service and they told me it was O.K. I got a diesel pump from another car it starts easily when fitted to my car. Can someone tell me what adjustments can be done on the diesel pump so that it starts quick ? please can someone help I now know that the pump is out of setting but do not know which of the settings is to be adjusted. I am not a novice in motor maintenance but not well geared to the injector pumps of this kind.

Search for "start of delivery". That is the only adjustment I can think of on the pump, and sounds like you did that another way than the "drip method" most here use. The IP also needs 12 psig minimum fuel pressure from the upstream "lift pump", with no air bubbles. I don't know an easy way to measure that. Conceivably, instead of the lift pump, you could install an electric fuel pump to make that inlet pressure. Some of us may have to in the future since the lift pump parts are getting harder to find.

Was this a Car that you recently bought or was sitting unused for a long time?

Did anyone use WVO/SVO for Fuel?

The Fuel Pressure Relief/Overflow Valves on some of them have a Plastic Piece inside of The newer M type Fuel Injection Pumps have a Fuel Supply/Lift Pump with no Hand Primer on them and uses Disc Valves and they do not last 30 years like the older ones.

There is rebuild kits for all of the Fuel Supply/Lift Pumps up untill they went to the Common Rail System.

It is not unknow for the Piston Return Spring inside of the Fuel Supply/Lift Pump to break or the Piston to get stuck.
