Bosch glow plug warranty - online companies

So I bought some Bosch glow plugs online about 9 months ago or so, one has failed and one is giving a weird reading.

Has anyone tried to get warranty for glow plugs bought from someone online?

I cleaned the carbon from the glow plug holes when changed the plugs, i also went to clean the carbon when i put an old working glow plug back i and it was clean.

Usually your best bet is indeed to contact the support folks at the site you bought it from.

According to this page on Bosch's website, that's what they suggest you do first.

http://www.boschautoparts.com/warranty/Pages/AutomotiveProductWarranty.aspx

You'll find a link on that page to a PDF for warranty submission directly to Bosch in the event that the place you purchased it from cannot or will not help. Here is the direct link:

Let us know how it turns out. My guess is that since a glow plug is a "wear" item more or less and can be damaged by carbon build up, etc. that is no fault of the glow plug that it won't be covered. Be interesting to see if they ask to examine the part.

x2.

I just replaced my Bosch ones over the weekend, a set that went in 11 months ago.

I suspected some were weak. I did have an issue with the glow relay not switching off, early last winter, but it wasn't a problem for that long that it should have fried the glowplugs. Or so I expected.

I was very shocked to find that two were obviously done and one was borderline. (Albeit based on inspection only, have not fired them up outside of the car yet.)

If you get too aggressive tightening down on the nut, then that can cause damage inside the plug. The innards can be twisted and shorten it out.

Hmmm. That might resemble one or two of mine....

It was only after the install, last year, I read Roy's note that the nuts don't have to be tight.

Bosch glow plugs should have a 1 year warranty. Contact the place you bought them from. Don't trust the weird reading, power them up and watch the glow.

Resistance measurement of glow plugs are not the most accurate due to it's extreme low resistance. The common ohm meter is just not up to the task.
