questions about 85 300TD SLS...

So, My car is level. But in digging around I found these spacers in the rear springs...

Which got me paying more attention... today I drove the car to work and after sitting for 8 hours, I started it and felt the car lift up. Now, in the 2.5 years I have owned the car, the hydraulic fluid has never dropped, I see no leaks anywhere... But the rear end is defiantly not and high and tight as my 82 was once I put the rams in I got from Vstech. Car feels "floaty"

Whats the best point of attack to sort this out>?

Hmm. I'd jack up the diff on the car support the body and drop the subframe, and get those spacers out. Then reattach everything and set the car on ramps, and adjust the level valve.

OP: It sounds like your SLS control valve is leaking off the base pressure, or maybe cannot even hold base pressure. The combination of base pressure with spring force is what keeps the rear suspension level with no load.

Simple check of SLS / rear suspension bushing health: Measure between following two points: (1) center of star in cap in center of rim of rear wheel, and (2) belt-trim that runs entire length of car. Should be 18 inches when car is unloaded and "ready to drive" (i.e. full tank of fuel, all fluids full, spare tire and tool pouch in place). If more or less, then something is different or wrong.

Leak-by test: Run the engine until the rear suspension is "pumped up", and then shut off the engine, open up the SLS reservoir and watch the return line exit into the tank. If it keeps drip drip dripping for five or ten minutes and the rate does not decrease, then you know your control valve is leaking off the base pressure. Rebuild or replace. I've had terrible luck rebuilding them, gave up after two attempts using the MB kit.

How? The FSM calls for some special tools.

Our friend at the source of mercedes did a PDF on this, I read it.not long ago. I would suggest reading it, he goes into the reasons why one should.not adjust the valve to chang3.vehicle.height. longstoryshort, your problem is mechanical in nature, not hydraulic. The springs, differential mount, and or subframe.mounts are worn, none of which has anything to do with the hydraulics. The hydraulics are.for dampening, and adjusting the height if you have a Load. If your car is not loaded, then you have other problems.

No, I downloaded it on my computer as soon as I ordered it. You -may- have to re-sign in to see it in your account?
