why not just rebuild your old one?
don't oz have parts yards? I think the OE starter is the most impressive starter going, and repair is way better than any PRC junk in my opinion.

I remember seeing this when I put my rebuilt starter motor in. I was all excited until I heard it was made in China and double the cost. I'll take a rebuilt Bosch over Chinamart any day of the week.

I would be mighty skeptical trying to collect on an out-of-country warranty with a Chinese manufacturer. Likely to end up with paying twice the price + early failure + no answer from the dealer when it fails.

We can get these starters here for much less than this. The 5 year deal is a bit of a joke. They decide if its bad. Normally the starter gear fails & takes out your ring gear. Then they say its your ring gear that failed & took out the starter gear. I know some one that has had 3 new starters in an old Hylux diesel. he figures that if he gets a starter each year for 5 years, he may get a good one in that time. You cant claim for your wasted time. Vstech ~ there are not many P&P type places in Australia with MB's.

Speaking of warranty, I bought my rebuilt starter at NAPA. It has an unlimited warranty. I keep the receipt in the maintenance booklet in my trunk so if it ever dies, I just go to a NAPA and get a replacement.

The weakest link on any starter is the POSITIVE contact. This is the part that takes all the amps at start up. I have many times just replaced this contact, under the bolt, and starter continues to work. Clean it up, blow it out, wipe it off, rebuilt starter... :0) I get the copper contacts from a rebuilder, couple bucks. Otherwise I buy from AutoZone, lifetime warranty, they keep your phone # in their data bank, so no worries to keep receipt. Their duracraft brand is decent...I haven't had any issues. Diesel starters are tough!

I am currently having starter issues went to a.z. and advance today they both are out of the cheaper $83 dollar rebuilts have the more expensive ones $250 but figure I will rebuild my own rather then dish out that kind of money. Just do not want to have to put on and off 2 or 3 times to get problem fixed as I use car for daily driver. I guess I will have to check out napa or some other sources or just rebuild my current one. Try to keep downtime to a minimum.
