Unhappy Dash Dark. 1985 300sd

Hey guys I've been on the road for a while and yesterday before sunset I turned on my headlights and as the sun set my dash and radio,ac,and window switches were dark.
I tried adjusting the dimmer but nothing happened also I turned head lights on/ off several times but still dark.

The gauges worked fine the radio works, fan, windows all fine just not light up.
What do you think? I checked all my fuses and they are fine ( new I just replaced)

I'm I looking at headlamp switch , dimmer Or ?

Thanks

Had the same problem on my 90 sdl. the plug which goes into the inst. cluster had a bad connection. pull the cluster, turn lights on and try wiggling the wires and see if the instrument lights come on. could be a bad dimmer switch but in my case just a bad connection. the car sat for a while and damp weather caused several connection problems.

Might also be a tracing on the instrument panel...if you take the panel off you can usually see a broken/burned trace.

Guess you could always tape a flashlight pointing toward the dash...akin to turning up the radio when you hear an engine noise :-)

After few cups of coffee, went back out and pulled the cluster and all was OK.
Then went back through and found one of my new fuses had a loose top, replaced it and now we have light.

I really am concerned about these fuses this is the second time I have had issues with these, bought them from NAPA.

You can buy copper fuses here which are better than aluminum found out in the world. That said, always test with a meter before moving to other possibilities.
