Alistair:
Sorry, man, you need the block, too. The turbo engine has oil cooled pistons and a different oil pump. I'm fearfull that your "addon" turbo plan will result in a dead engine very quickly. You can, however, drop in a turbo engine complete (keep the IP, rad, tranny, and oil cooler from the turbo car!) rather than attempt to convert the engine. I'm sure there are wrecking yards in the UK in which there is at least on turbo engine in a dead body that can be had for reasonable money. You don't have the advantage of road salt that we do here -- the bodies rot long before the running gear goes bad! Peter

There is a company in the UK that specializes in turbocharging diesels, particularly for motorhomes. I believe they turbocharge the 616 and 617 engines and I'm sure they don't change out the blocks so it can be done. Check them out:

I'm sure you can put the turbo on that engine and make it work, but it may not live very long...Without the oil jets for the pistons, the stronger crank/crank bearings/main bearing caps, etc., it probably won't live very long.
We'd hate to see you spend a lot of $$ and time and effort on it, and then have it blow up on you. mike
