W210 Why two different exterior temp readings?

Any idea as to why I have divergent exterior temperature readings? On the instrument cluster it says, say, 22F. But on the actual readings display on the climate control unit it might say 28. Do they work off of different sensors?

Not a big deal....just curious.

Yup

The cluster number comes from the sensor in the grill below the bumper.
The climate control number comes from the sensor in the air intake plenum.

The cluster number is speed compensated so that it does not go up when sitting in hot traffic. The cluster is most accurate when the car is moving.

The climate control IAT sensor is reading the actual intake temperature, the climate control needs to know this so that it can regulate properly. It is not speed compensated.
