IP? All US passenger car models are basically mechanical with electronic idle control.

Wastegate? 90-93 have ECU control via vacuum, easily replaced with ungoverned boost actuator. Don't know about '87 190D turbo.

Do any year 602 engines have a mechanical idle control?

I think my 84 601 does.

'84 OM601 does have PLA (pneumatic idle-speed control).

The OM602 "euro" NA-engines (602.91, 250 D/250 TD/190 D 2.5) does have PLA. But "euro" models with "automatic + A/C" does have ELR (electronic idle-speed control).

602 = none of the US models. There's a mechanical base idle setting that can be raised if ELR fails... which is about never.

IIRC '84 601 has an idle up funciton when the AC compressor is engaged, not the stabilizing function ELR provides.

Are you looking for an IP to survive a solar flare or something that won't strand you? A 602 won't strand you if the electronics fail. You might not even notice if you swap in a pressure wastegate actuator.
