injector replacement
I am planning to replace the injectors on my '81 300TDT. From reading old posts I have read that you can either buy replacements of have your current ones tested and rebuilt. I am hoping for opinions about which option is better. Also if anyone has had theirs rebuilt what is the approximate turn around time from when you take them in to when you get them back. If anyone in the D/FW area could reccomend a shop that does this kind of work it would also be a great help. Thanks for all the great information this forum provides.

I have had injectors tested and rebuilt by local Diesel Injection Service Co. shop for many years on VW, MB and GM diesels. Think the last time I did it, the price was about $35 each to have them rebuilt or swapped. One or two day turn-around is normal. At least one time, I have been able to drop them off when the shop opened, and pick them up around closing time. Also can just get them crack tested (measure presure at which injector opens). This is how you can balance them. All injectors should be close to each other in crack presure and have even spray pattern. Usually costs about $7 each and they deduct that from price of rebuild if bad. Check with a couple of shops in your yellow pages. My prices are a bit old. And be sure to use new heat shield washers when you put the injectors back in.

Try DIS http://www.dieselpage.com They should be able to rebuild Bosch injectors and they have a good reputation, if they can't they'll at least be able to refer you to a good shop.
