OM602 #1 misfire

OM602 2.5 na in my 87 190D. The mechanic at the muffler shop pointed out the misfire. Cutting fuel to #1 does not change the idle, and the exhaust runner is cold. Changed the injector, no luv.

Any ideas? I was going to do a compression test on that cylinder. Could it be a collapsed lifter or similar?

If Fuel is being injected into the Cylinder but not burning you would think it would burn in the Exhaust Manifold and you would have some bit of smoke.

If Fuel is not being Injected into #1 the Exhaust would be cold and there would be no extra smoke.

I have no idea how much work it would be but I suppose you could swap some lifters around.

Is there any Fuel coming out of the #1 when you loosen the line Nut?

The compression test mentioned seems like a good idea. But, collasped lifters could have a negative effect on that.

My first shot would be to replace the fuel injector, or swap it around with one of the other injectors. You'd need to pull the injector to test compression in any event.

You can also test the lifters in place...just rotate the cam so that the lobes are pointed away from the lifters, and press down on each lifter. If they sink easily, they're toast. It's pretty easy to replace lifters if you want to try that...just remove the cam and pull out the lifters with a magnet, then drop in new ones. Make sure you follow the correct tightening and loosening sequence for the cam tower bolts.

I swapped the injector, and it acts a bit differently, but not at idle. # 1 was I think the last injector to get fuel when I put it back together after doing the head gasket.
Could it be delivery valve seals? It was a huge pain to bleed through and fire compare to the 616 I swapped into my 240D.
