W210 Headlight Switch question
My 1996 E300D (W210, OM606NA) has a headlight switch with part number 210-545-03-04. EPC shows that number having been superseded by -09-04 and that by 16-04. A note on the -03-04 reads "[414] The old part must no longer be installed." There is no explanation as to why.
Anyone know what might have changed? The existing switch in my car works perfectly. I just got a spare from a 1997 E320 at Windsor (California) Pick-n-Pull; it is an -09-04 and appears to be identical to the -03-04. EPC also lists several other part numbers for various series of 210s with no information (of course) on what might be the differences. Jeremy

Pure speculation but it's possible the newer part number has higher capacity contacts inside. They may have found that the switch was somewhat over rated so they increased the size of the internal contacts in the later version.

My 97 w210 has lights that randomly turn off and come on again, they may work ok for months and then have a spell over a few days where they go off and instantly come back on or do not come on when switch is operated.
I have aftermarket sidelight l.e.d bulbs which set the bulb warning off when lights are switched, so when the lights misbehave the dash will chime in and let me know. When they do go out main beam (high) still works by pulling stalk back as normal. Plenty of vids on Youtube concerning this. |
