'91 300D 2.5 - Anyone know the name of this part?

I'm in the middle of putting my head back together, and realized I misplaced the bushing (guess that's what you'd call it) the camshaft rides on for the back of the head, the half circle piece that is easily removable. I have the front one just can't find the skinnier rear one..

Can't find it in any parts diagrams anywhere,or find a part #

-sigh-

TIA

part name

That part you are showing is called a "lock washer for axial fixing" in the 603 engine manual. It is used as a sort of thrust washer to lock the camshaft into position so it can't move forwards or backwards.

That is the only part like that which is used in these 603 engines, there may be some sort of slot or recess towards the rear of the head that looks like it might be used for something similar, but there is no part in either the manual or the MB EPC for use in any rear slot.

Part number # A 601 051 00 73 for the part used at the front of the cam.

Huge shootout to "ThatOne" on here,he PM'ed me this

"Hello, I tried top post an answer to your question yesterday but it needs to be approved by a moderator it said, I PM'd the Mod but I guess it hasn't happened yet!

The camshaft only uses a single part like that. It's used in the slot at the front of the cylinder head. The part is called "lock /shim axial fixing" the part number is # A 601 051 00 73 ,

It serves the purpose to keep the cam from moving fore and aft while it's turning. The rear thinner slot that you mention is not used there is no similar part for use in it.

Good luck with your cylinderhead R&R.

You can post this info to you thread if you'd like, that way someone else who has the same or similar question will find it if the mods don't approve the post that I'd originally answered with."

So it turn's out you were right Sixto, thanks again everyone I can continue with the car tomorrow.

Yeah...

You'll wanna make sure that cam lock washer is installed. I bought a car that someone had left it out and the cam had some significant movement and made a terrible knocking noise.
