Help! 603 Cam Removal Sequence - Pic

Please see attached photo & Instructions for Engine 603

I'm putting in new lifters (cam followers). Valve cover, etc are off and I'm ready to pull the cam

But the FSM instructions seem "backward".....

Says to first "unscrew both hexagon bolts on camshaft bearing caps 1, 5, and 6 (dark arrows)"

Problem is that the accompanying picture depicts 1, 5 & 6 arrows as light arrows.

Same scenario for loosening 2, 3, 4, & 7. In the photo they are dark arrows however the instructions refer to these as "light arrows".

I'm confused....maybe just a photo formatting thing but I figured I better check with you all.

Thanks!

Is there a previous statement that tells you to set the motor to TDC compression stroke prior to beginning cam removal? Otherwise, the bolt sequence isn't going to apply much... The reason for the sequence is some lobes are under tension and THOSE lobes need gradual loosening of the bolts.

Yes the motor needs to be (& is) set to TDC compression stroke. I understand the lobes under tension needing gradual loosening. Just don't understand why the FSM instructions (pic) referring to the arrows as "light" & "dark" as they appear opposite i.e. instructions says 1, 5, & 6 are "dark arrows" when the accompanying photo shows them as light or no color fill.

I am standing at the ready to start removing the bearing caps.... Any thoughts?

Lifters Installed / FSM note

Lifters installed. Nice how quiet it is now.

Vtech...I kept to the loaded cam lobe thinking when I backed the caps off. Thanks for the support.

FSM Correction:

Regarding the cam removal bolt pattern shown in the FSM. The written instructions are correct however the referenced photo has the colors reversed.

Thanks again

It's wrong in the 126 FSM, correct in the 124 FSM.

My 603 has the sequence backwards. It was clear after staring at the manual for a few hours. Once I figured it out the removal procedure went smoothly.
