Strange wire from ash tray area?

I can't seem to find out what this wire connects to. I was thinking it was something for the fan controls because the fan doesn't come on. It came out of the area where the ash tray is, I was trying to take out the fan control switches to see if it is something attached to that but can seem to get it out, looks like the console needs to come out and can't figure that out either. Appreciate your help!

Silly question - but does it hook up to the left side of your ash tray frame? My car was missing that, so I'm not sure - but it looks like the right connector. (In fact, I have one of those from the junkyard that I found last night and had no idea what it was for). If so, it should power the lighter and convenience light, once the tray is re-installed, via some sliding contacts.

Its a 1980 300D. I was thinking it could be something for the ashtray but didn't see anywhere for it to connect on it. Thanks.

There should be a metal (male) tab for it to slide onto.

likely the fuse#8 is burned up... very common. when the bearings on these motors dry out, the ampdraw on the wiring climbs gradually, and it heats up the conductor and the fuse... JUST enough to burn up the holder... but not enough to pop the fuse. plastic fuses actually melt without popping the element...

most rewire the fuse for a mini auto fuse, and fix the problem.

of course... you still need to grease the blower bearings, or replace the motor.
