High speed test.

This past weekend I drove up to Willows California for the races at Thunderhill Raceway. Anyway, having just completed the boost controller install, I was cusious on how the new setting of 14.5 psi would act at high speeds and high RPMs, 4300 . Well, it was excellent. On my way up I averaged about 90mph with an average of 95mph on a 49 mile section of Highway 5. It has tons more power up there. At one point I decided to put the hammer down and see what it would do. Well, I hit just about 110-112 mph. It still wanted to go but I got scared because of the rpms. What is the exact redline? Anyway, I'm sure that I would easily have hit 115 mph. The car felt so much more stable than before because the power made the car so much more controllable. I recomend this mod to everyone!! Oh ya, just a little more information. On this 360 mile road trip, I averaged 22mpg with an overall average speed of 83.5 mph. Total distance divided by time. Much of the trip was at higher speeds but, traffic slowed me down a lot.

I think the maximum speed for that engine is 5100 RPM. The injection pump incorporates a "rev limiter" or sorts, thus it is not possible to over-rev the engine.

Cool

Okay, so the engine does have a governor. Good.

I hadn't heard either way, but I have yet to see a diesel that isn't governed somehow...this truck guy still has to get used to a max RPM above 3500, though...

Heh heh, a friend of mine has a '99 F-250 Powerstroke... you should have seen him driving a Peugeot 405 Mi16--a car with a 1.9 liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine... 7500 RPM rev limiter and zero power until 5000 RPM. He was shifting at 2500 max, lugging the poor engine at every upshift... apparently he was really used to his truck

good to hear that there is a rev limiter. On my next trip down to LA I'll try to see if I can hit it. Maybe. Has anyone ever tryed to tach out a 300D and see what it will do?
