E 320 CDI glow plug controller change problems
I bought an 06 e320 cdi white with 90500 mi. back in Feb. and am loving it. Thanks to all you cdi posters for arming me with great info before buying.
About 2 weeks ago the glow plug light starting staying on long and stayed on after start then I got CEL with glow plug code. All the glow plugs tested fine (even though it appears from records they have never been replaced). So I ordered a new controller (Husker Auto Group had best price by far), it has arrived. Yesterday I put the car up on ramps, removed covers, and got ready to remove the old one -- sounded easy. Wellll, maybe if you have a lift. I got the wiring disconnected and one bolt out easily but the second bolt is so close to the positive connection to the starter that I can't see how I can access it without arcing to the wrench. This how-to describes that but doesn't say how he got around it:W211 E-Class Pictures Sticky - Page 60 - Mercedes-Benz Forum Can I/should I disconnect negative cable of the trunk battery? What functions will I have to reset after doing this -- posts on other forums range from "you'll have to take it to the dealer" to "you'll just have to reset the clock and radio presets." I'd appreciate your suggestions, Jim
