W116, W123, W126 Lower Control Arms

I was under the impression that the W116, W123, W126 lower Control Arms were the same. Maybe not the same part#`s, but the design and shape were the same.

I was poking around on E-Bay the other night and clicked into this down under MB site, Oz-Benz, and read through a build thread on a W116 78 280S AMG 4-SPD.
There is a picture of the Lower Control arm I had never seen before. Maybe all W116 have this type? IDK. Sure is different.

Scroll down and there is a picture of it.

Then I come across this seller selling the same Arms (Left and Right) for a w123. No way this will work......or as far as I can tell from my being under a bunch of these cars.

Hey Charlie,

That eBay seller misidentified that control arm. It is definitely for a w116, not a w123.
All w116's have that style of control arms, however, there is a chance the 450SEL 6.9 might be different.

Though similar, the w123 lower control arm is shorter than the w126.

So to answer your original question if the w116, w123, and w126 arms are the same? They are not the same and are not interchangeable.

Richard thanks for getting me up to speed on the 116 Control arm. I have pulled engine parts from the 116 SD`s but haven`t been under them.
Interesting looking Arm for sure.

Another thing interesting is the W116 is a wider body than the W123, but the Upper Control Arms are the same part #`s.
The W126 is also wider than the W123, but similar in width to the 116, but it has a longer Upper Control Arm and also part#`s.

W116 450SEL 6.9 Steering knuckle in the ball joint area is a little more massive.

A W123 or w126 Knuckle. The picture is of a 126, it has the extra hole for the ABS Sensor.
