You can probably weld that back on. But if it's too deteriorated, than a donor will be needed and welded on.
Should look like this similar to a R107. .

Thanks for the picture. that is similar to what it looks like.g going to see if a mechanic can wield it back on or fabricate part of it to wield to it.

If that part is not salvagable, you can cut one off a r107 or w114, that is if you can't find one from a w115.

I seem to recall that there was a recall for that back in the day up here in Canada. Don't know what was involved in the repair but it might be worth looking to see if there was a kit issued for those cars that were getting as bad as yours. I remember getting a notice for my W114 to bring it in for an inspection (probably 35 years ago).

2 numbers show up relating to your part.
115 460 07 38 Trunnion bearing. Steering intermediate arm bearing. And 115 460 09 38 Trunnion bearing. Nur fuer reparaturzwecke (only for repair purposes). The second number probably includes the first. |

Looks like the 115 460 07 38 is still available but I can't find anything on the repair kit.
Price looks to be around $150 but that is a lot less than it would cost in labour to fabricate a new one (or cobble up from what you have remaining). Of course you will need to add in the labour for welding the new part in. You will need the above part plus the bushing kit that fits into it. |

Scary. When the idler mount breaks, seems it could jam the steering which is probably more dangerous than losing brakes or a control arm failure. I worry about all suspension and steering mounts in my 300D's, since formed from fairly thin sheet-metal. Compare to the rust-free CA car in post 4. The LCA pivot and K-frame attachments in my 1984 cracked. That was after a theft & curb crash when the PO had it, but shows how weak those points are.

I have fixed a few by sticking a smaller pipe inside and welding. Are you in Utah?

I'm in Illinois unfortunately. But yeah that's what I'm doing essentially. Just cutting the old mount off at the frame and making that part out of a thicker walled tubing and a new tube for the bushings.
