603 IP leak

Hello, I'm having trouble finding a leak coming from what I think is the injection pump. And i was wondering if someone else has BTDT. It appears to be engine oil that's coming from underneath the pump, again not sure where it starts but I'm fairly confident it's not the stop lever, fuel heater or oil level sensor but the oil ends up running down the engine block right in that area. Any help is appreciated. Common culprits? Thanks

On your Engine the Fuel Injection Pump has an O-ring between the Block and the Fuel Injection Pump.

On my 84 300D there is a pan on the bottom of the Fuel Injection Pump that is sealed by a big square cross sectioned O-ring.

Besides the Stop Lever there is the Throttle Lever.

Also the Fuel Supply/Lift Pump has a gasket between it and the Fuel Injection Pump that could leak Oil.

On mine there is a plastic Oil Supply Line going from the Engine to the Fuel Injection Pump but I don't know if yours has that.

To find leaks clean and degrease. Then take it for a drive and come back and see if you can feel or visualize where it is leaking from.

On yours you have a cover on the side of the Fuel Injection Pump that the Fuel Supply/Lift Pump is on. The cover gasket can leak and if the screws are loose that can also cause a leak.

Note on mine the Oil Cooler Hoses are also on the same side as the Fuel Injection Pump.

The bottom plate is leaking, BTDT. There is an o-ring in there. The plate is held by 6 torx bolts. It is not easy to remove the plate with engine in situ. Don't bugger up the bolt head or the IP has to come off.

Wow excellent information, thanks everyone. It does seem like it's the bottom plate, or at least that's the worst of it. Hopefully it's not too tricky to R and R I'm not very comfortable playing with the pump... glad i dont have to take it off entirely...

Expect about 2 cups of oil to come out of the bottom.
