Auburn auction in the fall

My brother and I went up to Auburn last night. We got to look at a lot of spectacular full classic cars....Cords, Auburns and Deusenbergs.

My favorite Auburn owner is a young man named Andrew who lives in Auburn and has created an Auburn 12 (yes, that is for V12) from several different cars. It is a sedan and has an American Lefrance engine which is derived from the Lycoming v12 offered in the Auburns.

We also went to an Auburn Cord Deusenberg flea market at the local park and saw a number of nice cars including several survivors who are showing their age but are in good running order with worn and tattered around the edges parts.

At the flea market there was an Artist named Bill Shelton with a number of different automotive related pictures, many of which are line drawings which he copies then completes with water color. He had a number of pictures of the front of the famous Coffin Nose Cord.

I bought an original water color from him of the 1950 Indy Pole winner, the cummins diesel special powered by a cummins turboed truck diesel laid flat in a chassis built by Kurtis. The car was very fast but no tires were up to its power and weight. After its pole winning run it came with the right front tire worn down to the cords.

In the race it had to run at a much reduced speeds. I love it!

That Cummins racer is huge, standing next to it you wonder how the tires ever carried it aroundna curve, was the era.
Are you coming back for the auction?
Also, ancouple hours further is the Gilmour collection in Hickory Corners, I believe the largest car collection in North America, lots of brass era, well worth the trip.

We were there for the auction. We were having so much fun looking at cars outside we never got in to the auction floor. (That's a first for me) We're home now and will not be back this year.

Its a great time!

Is the cummins racer on display somewhere? Someone yesterday said it was in Colombus at Cummins being restored. I'd love to hear it run and look at it up close.

Tom, ME and I were at the ACD Museum a couple of week ago. Andy (the guy you mentioned) showed us around the museum and we had a great time. His Auburn was at a sheet metal fabricators having some stuff made so we didn't get to see it, dern it. I know him from BangShift and it was great to meet him in person. Seeing the museum with such an experienced guide was a real delight. I LOVE that place!

The Cummins was fully restored in the Cummins booth at a trucking show last spring, I don't know where it is now.

Well I watched a lot of it yesterday and today, live streaming it through my desk top and on the pullout of my computer desk I have my laptop. Excellent viewing from both and then I decided to start taking pictures. Just before getting my Iphone camera set up, about 1PM they ran a 1972 gorgeous 72 300 SEL with a 3.5 V8. The car looked fabulous in white with the aqua blue interior and the auctioneers busted their butts to get $10,500 out of it while these old Chebby Pickups continue to roll through at from $20,000 to $50,000 and more. Hard to believe. I really wanted to go, have not been there for years but I couldn't find anyone to go with me and at my age I just don't like wondering around to much by myself. My son in law was going to take me Monday, but they don't run on Monday anymore. So I am glad I can live stream it and take a couple day break from MLB on the net. You know, you can watch too much baseball!
