Meyle lower control arm bushings - should I pull the trigger?

I need to replace the lower control arm bushings on the 1984 300DT. Is meyle a descent brand for this part or should I go genuine mercedes? There is quite a differential in price between the two.........benz being a LOT more expensive!

You talking about the inner or the outer lower Control Arm Bushing?
I would go with Lemforder parts before using Meyle parts.

I did have time finding the outer bushing in Lemforder, but found a guy on E-bay that had them
part# 123-330-14-75

The inner bushing I found them between $25 and $37 depending on supplier. I went with the W126 bushing for the 240D.
Part# 126-330-00-75

The W123 bushing
part# 123-330-13-75 $99 MB and $18.50 Meyle

Ended up using Meyle on my S124 front/rear suspension refurb.

Others will disagree, but I found the parts both high quality in feel and fit, that said I don't know how they will perform long term.

I think the standard warranty is 2 years but you can opt for the HD parts where available, these are very high spec offering extended warranty (4 years).

The other major upside is ordering/getting the right parts, Meyle have a somewhat quirky online catalogue but matches OEM to their numbers well.

By way of comparison, I have just today order two TRW steering rods which were about the same price.

Good luck getting the old ones out, can be a struggle sometimes..

Those were the only parts I couldn't find in Lemforder, so I went with the Meyle ones. Made in China doesn't bother me, it's when the middleman calls China and tells them to make it cheaper so they can make more money on it and China says okay, just tip whatever's laying around into the vat and pour 'em.

So we'll see. Can't be any worse than what was on there or the Uro ones. And it's not the most impossible part to change. Lower ball joints I hope to never do again, on the other hand.

Re: Getting the old ones out... Stick a screwdriver in the hole and then force it up against the side of the thin metal tube that runs through it. Then hammer on the screwdriver as you guide it toward the center. At some point you'll punch through the tube and catch the edge of the opposing half of the bushing and be able to hammer it out. The tube just tears in half. Then the other half of the bushing comes out with a piece of pipe and more hammering.

Personally I wouldn't have a problem using Meyle if Lemforder wasn't available and OEM is much more expensive. Take the W116/R107 rear subframe mounts, they are like $800 from the dealer or $60 from Meyle, I'd be willing to risk using Meyle. My 190E Sportline had some Meyle parts on it when I got it and all of those parts were fine, it was the URO junk that I had to replace. Unfortunately, that didn't really include too many critical parts so I can't tell you how their rubber bits are. It was brake lines (hard to mess up) and steering damper. Dampers can be easy to screw up, seemed like a very good quality piece to me when I removed it and inspected it. I'd personally love it if I or someone could buy the full line of Meyle suspension bits for a car and see how they hold up, it seems to me that there is little data out there on their quality as most people go with the cheapest parts out there (URO) or get spendy with Lemforder/OEM parts. I am one of those people who uses Lemforder as much as possible so I am not much of a help.

I put a meyle window regulator in my car (a '98 e300). It worked for two or three years stopped working a few months ago. I'm not sure it's the regulator but will find out when I have a nice cool day to work on it in October or November. In the meantime, I'm not buying anything with the meyle name on it.

My view on parts is that if I am going to spend a day or more on a repair, I buy the more expensive part as I never want to do the repair again. Even in a DIY job, our time is worth quite a bit in terms of money.

There is a sales service associated with Aristocrat Motors in Merriam, Kansas 66203 (a Mercedes dealer) that has good prices on Mercedes parts. The number is 1-800-587-4863. I have dealt with them twice and have been pleased with the price and the merchandise -- a little slow on sending the stuff though. Check with them. The Mercedes Classic Center might also give you a good price in Irvine, California. I don't have their contact information anymore.

The price differential is quite small, so not really worth pondering on, its when you get into three figures you kind have to think.

Not sure if yours is the same, but the nobbly bits indicate bush stiffness, also have to be correct way around too.

Received the TRW tie rods this morning, first impressions not good unfortunately.

Overall finish is poor and sloppy, 'looks' like China produced.

I'll fit them anyway, but if it had been say a LCA would have returned.

I now also include 1 bolt for the upper control arm and one bolt for the lower control arm in my order. I've recently done the suspension on 2 126 300SDs and found one bolt rusted on each car. The bolts are inexpensive and shipping is already paid for with a larger order. You really don't want to hold the project up waiting on the bolt.

Make the decision quickly to get the sawzall out if you run into a rusty bolt. Buy new blades, cut into the bushing cap itself and you'll be done in a few minutes without damaging the body or control arm.

Alternatively, You can spend a long time trying to remove the bolt and end up cutting it out anyway.

Might be a good idea to slather the bolt with some Anti-Seiz compound before replacing them.
The shaft, not the threads.

Depends what condition your old ones are in really, mark before removing unless going for wheel alignment afterwards.

Only if your originals have the eccentric pin. More than likely, yours is standard. I'm thinking you may be able to tell by looking before disassembly.

Thank you, I"ll get the car up on some ramps and grap my work light and take a closer look; I'll probably take some photos and post here.
