Because swapping the harnesses would be a lot of work with plenty of risk that you'll miss connect something, for probably no gain. Unless you see bad wiring (melted or crumbling insulation) or test it and find it bad, I don't think you'll be gaining anything. Just getting wiring wet doesn't ruin it, except maybe at the connectors which have probably corroded. That can be cleaned up.

I disagree on not swapping the harnesses. MB made things pretty much idiot proof. They were very careful to choose connectors at each node that could not be confused. You're asking for trouble leaving a harness that was soaked like that.
I've studied the ETM for the 124 and the 92 and 93 have very few if any electrical differences. The product was mature and they only did one more refresh for the "special edition" last year 1995 model.
