Hatch keeps trying to close...

Hey folks, I'm not sure why this suddenly started happening. The hatch motor keeps trying to close the hatch (which is closed by the way).

It comes on at random times, not necessarily with bumps or anything like that. Any ideas as to what gives?

Electric closing assist motor out of adjustment

Procedures here:
72 Doors

Be careful, that thing is powerful and looks like it could take your finger clean off...

Thanks Jay bob, looks like I got my work cut out for me. The lock just jammed in the closed position so I have to hold the tailgate down with a bungee. It's jammed and I can't unjam it for some reason.

Well, short of taking the whole lock assembly apart, I've pulled prodded and stuck my finger in almost every spot I could think of. No go.

It's stuck in the locked position like so. Help anyone??

Is there some kind of catch I can press to release this thing?

Well I kind of fixed it. Took off that gold coloured steel plate, resigning myself to taking apart the whole lock.

I then noticed a gap large enough to fit my screwdriver in. Managed to lever the cam open. Fixed the plate back and it's working fine now.

It might come back, but for now, at least the car can be locked up.

Remove, clean, and lubricate the lock mechanism. Mine started getting really balky until I did this about a year ago and have had no troubles since.
