AC Question W210

My W210's AC compressor isn't engaging. Couple months ago, I removed the AUX fans, AC condenser and radiator. I never hooked the auxiliary fans up because the housing that they sit in was old deteriorated and cracked plastic. I haven't ordered that part as I can't find the part number. I went to go turn on my AC and noticed the compressor didn't engage. I "topped" off the system because of my evaporator leak. I have plenty of R134 according to gauges and have a new evaporator temp sensor and the compressor was replaced about 30k miles ago by the PO. No it isn't overfilled and just within range.

Can the compressor engage without the AUX fans installed?
