Friday the 13th DMV visit...

On Friday the 13th, the California DMV tried to give my 1987 300D plates with the devil's number. Nah, give me a different one.

Wearing that plate would have been far too much bad luck for my poor car.

Oh I don't know, every time I have to go to the DMV it's like a visit to Hell. Seems appropriate.

The DMV office isn't located on 8th Avenue by any chance?

LOL, too true! Every time I visit the DMV, it's a reminder of how much gov't sucks at managing things.

If I got those plates and my first name was Dave, I would keep them. Otherwise I'd have to keep explaining what the 8AVE stood for.

BTW in IN the BMVs work great, pick a number wait ten minutes, one person does everything, you need a title transferred, renew a license, one person. License plates renewed on line in minutes. Not like in IL you picked a line then when you went through your half hour wait the loafer behind the counter says go to the other line over there wait again then sent back to the first line you were in.

My first commercial building had 8 bays in it. From 650 to 668 Main street.

I had never heard of 666 being the sign of the devil but I had potential tenants say they did not want it as their address. So I took it myself. Then I had a sign painter paint 666 1/3 on the door.

He said "you can't just change the address you have to go to the city Engineer and request it". I said "OK just paint the number please". He did.

Then the next day the mailman came and saw the number and said "you can't just change your address you have to go to the City Engineer and ask to". I said "If I tell all my suppliers that is my address and print all my business cards saying 666 1/3 and you get letters addressed to me at that address what are you going to do with them?" The mailman said "I'll deliver them here".

I said "There you go"!

I never had any more complaints about the address.

I should have just taken it and got a "hell on wheels" licence plate frame.

That's the first CA plate I've seen starting with 8. The last 7's I've seen were already followed with Z so it was bound to happen soon.

I recall our late forum member Jim Baubel could figure out a vehicle's general area/location based on the license number.
