A nice looking 350SDL

Looks very nice but the 350 rod bender scares me. I also noticed it gets 30-35MPG, I am lucky for high 20's with my 3.0 of the same year, who knew a bigger engine and heavier car would be easier on fuel??. Maybe it had the rod bending issue fixed by MB since it is now a "1m" mile engine. Pretty clever putting that original MB sales photo in the ad too.

And the price. What is that car really worth? $5K?

Still it is a beautiful car.

Looks like two different vehicles in the photographs. The one for sale is most likely the one that looks like rust at the bottom of the rear doors.
The one not for sale (to fool you) has a different color body cladding, yellow corner lights etc.
Then for sale is more than likely a 3k tops IMHO. Was there a 1990 300SDL?
I thought they offered a 300SDL through 1987 then back as a 1991, I could be wrong.
The last photograph also looks like an advertisement piece, stolen/borrowed.

You have a good eye. If they used bogus pictures, you can imagine how true the written part of the ad is???

Is R13 the Spinal Tap of AC?

Half the money gets as much car with no rust - https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cto/d/1990-mercedes-benz-350-sdl/6362535123.html

Yes I did a Google image search and that photo is tagged "courtesy of Mercedes Benz" on another site. When I see people do that all credibility goes out the window

Anytime you are suspicious about a photo just right click it and choose "search Google for image"

The first photo is not a long wheelbase w126.

Then he uses the last photo that's obviously shot on film from late 80's early 90's. It's also a darker color

A troll, dumb scammer?

How long theyve owned it gives you some importasnt feed back ,less than a yr usually means they have invested very little time and cost into the car. This means also the reliability of history is from a 2nd source which tends to lead to a bouncing ball effect of info .Information on an add youll always need to have some sketicism of their facts .A Prepared list of questions can save you alot of greif with a flipper .

My experience with flippers takes what you said to a new level. Typically the flippers will have invested plenty of time and effort repairing things - with bailing wire, duck tape, RTV, and "bottle fixes" dumped in the crankcase. If the current owner doesn't have first-hand knowledge of the history of the car, or is open about it's faults, run - don't walk away.

Call the guy and start your conversation like this, I'm calling about the car you have for sale. Half the time I get a response like which car are you talking about and the other half will say oh you mean the Mercedes, ( or whatever). I'll have an interest in talking to the second guy but don't really have much to say to the first guy.

How about I ask him which car is it or is it all three cars he has photos of in the ad?

Followed by you are only interested in the first one in the ad, and the last one. Then tell him if you need a project car in the future you will keep him in mind on the others.

Honestly, once I see aftermarket clear corners, smoked taillights and tacky stick-on-chrome-trim, my interest is pretty much gone...
