Should I have two vacuum reservoirs? (w123 300td)
My father owns a 1981 300TD euro spec, and I'm trying to fix his vacuum system. The previous owner disconnected all vacuum lines at the firewall, with the exception of the engine shutdown line (brown color).
Besides central locking (yellow line), this car has headlight range adjustment (purple line), and regular A/C (green line - not the auto climate control). For both this systems, the parts diagram on the EPC indicates that there should be a small vacuum reservoir inside the front left wheel arch, but I don't have this reservoir. It doesn't make sense to me that the car should have another vacuum reservoir besides the one under the trunk. So my question is: Is the second reservoir on the front fitted only to cars without central locking system? EDIT: I've attached the EPC diagrams for clarity. |

I don’t know if the euro spec had the fender reservoir.
I doubt it would be needed without the CC demands. Most hacks bypassing stuff plug lines, they don’t remove stuff

Looking i can see no vacuum tank under the front fender on the 240D .Only the egg crate in the rear for central locking
Your diesel will have its own vacuum pump on the engine .. |

Yeah I think it never came with the fender reservoir. It's just so confusing putting these vacuum system back together...
Anyway, thanks. Optimusprime: you cannot see the fender reservoir without removing a plastic panel on the lower part of the wheel arch. |

Perhaps the reason why some Euro 123s have the fender welll tank and some don't is when they have the ACC Automatic Climate Controls instead of the manual heater controls. My Euro 240TD doesn't have the extra tank and has the manual heater as where my friend has a Euro 300TD with the ACC and has the fender tank.

The Euro models had the reservoir under the front wheel arch for the headlight adjustment. If the reservoir isn't there, the headlights will dip everytime you brake.

My 240TD, being a bare bones MB, has top line for locks, middle for the headlights and bottom line for shut off. The lights don't lower when the brakes are used. I can tell you I've have more experience with vac adjust headlights than most. The extra tank is not a big issue. If you hook the lights up using a T off any vac line, after a check valve, they will work fine, provided you don't have massive vac leaks and the pump is working.
