OM602 G wagen swap
Gentlemen, I'm considering an OM602 turbo swap for my 461 G wagen. Is this a good fit? I currently have an OM617A and the 711.113 iron box 5 speed transmission, and 5.33 gears. Would there be an improvement in performance compared to the 617A?

I believe the 617 starter is on the passengers side while 602 is on the drivers side.

Correct, the starter is on opposite sides. If you go with the 602, you'll have to swap in a compatible transmission.
Why not just find a turbo 617?

the 602 is the five cylinder turbo 2.5 motor right? I don't think that has as much poop as a 617 turbo. I remember my 91 diesel having to mash the pedal to the floor and let it wind to the redline every shift to get up to speed. Once up to speed it would hold it fine at 85 though. For a four wheel drive rock crawler it would seem the 617 turbo would be better.

Both are rated at about 120hp but I have to think the 617 has more low end torque.
