I'd make sure this isn't the case before you dismiss the printer you currently have because as I said, many printers pull this scam and thus you'll get poor performance out of the box once again.

That's very interesting but isn't that illegal? The first printer was bought from Bestbuy, the replacement came from Canon USA. Both ran out of ink with less than 100 pages printed.

The vendor is irrelevant, cannon ships it like that from the factory to you or to best buy. I don't see why it's illegal... It would be like car dealers selling cars with the gas gauge on E. It's an dick move, but it isn't illegal.

If that is true, I should be able find in the user's manual which states that the ink cartridges are partially filled and will not meet the claimed specs for pages printed per cartridge until new cartridges are purchased. The partially filled cartridge should also be marked as such.
