OM617 serpentine conversion

Part 1 - shortened water pump.

I tried using the stock mb wp, but the shaft dia changed between the pully flange, bearings, and impeller.

A simpler solution was to use the Gates aftermarket wp (p/n 41160). Shaft is the same dia throughout and the bearing assembly was able to be pressed in right to the compression seal.

I used the mb impeller, since the vanes were much more precise than the gates aftermarket impeller.

I took off quite a bit of length using a lathe.

Which side of the belt is going to drive the water pump?

Groove side (stock - clock wise direction) - if I could find a mirror image of the impeller that would be great to simplify my belt routing. I found a pulley that is a perfect match for ratio and it's grooved. I'll post part numbers later.

Part 2 - The serp crank pulley.

Mfg by ASP racing in Texas. I sent them the attached pdf of a cad file, they sent me a thing of beauty. Almost too pretty to get it dirty - almost.

I spec'd a 5.5" od pulley to optimize my ratios.

I'm putting the om617 into a 4runner and keeping AC. I need every 1/8" I can get.

I see. It looks like a lot of work. Might be easier to relocate the radiator....?

Keeping the AC condenser and going with electric fans are the limiting factors. I will have to move the rad, but closer to the engine along with the condenser to fit the fans.
