question for 05 CDI drivers re: headlamp switch

Is the area around your headlight switch (with the OFF/AUTO/PARKING/LOW BEAM/ETC. markings) illuminated at night? My switch itself has a light to show its position, but it doesn't do any good in the dark when the positions themselves are not lighted. Is it just a bulb I need to replace?

Related rant: I have my DRLs set to on. That means the green "headlamp" light on the dash is always on. Which is fine, except that there's nothing to indicate when the head and tail lights turn on automatically at dusk. And given the problem above, it's impossible to confirm the headlight switch selection at a glance. Wish the green dash light was just for the real headlights. (Too old school to fully trust the auto headlights, but my paranoia isn't helped by the way the manual describes the AUTO feature as not to be trusted!)
