Unfortunately missed this at a local auction

Went to test drive this euro Mercedes 300d with a 4spd behind it,drove great ,brakes were good ,had a/c and heat.Any other day but this one I might have claimed it as mine but Family comes first .https://www.proxibid.com/aspr/1983-Mercedes-Benz-300D/39411021/LotDetail.asp?lid=39411021

Maybe a blessing in disguise? The pictures don’t show a car worth $1300 unless you really need the Euro drivetrain.

So what you are saying is that you had no intent to purchase and wanted a joy ride?

It was a joy to drive, never driven a diesel w123 standard ,really no surprizes and handled well .The rear qrt. trunk area was the only damage to the car and required a few welds and some sheet metal ,nothing major,a well taken care of car with a few hickups. The gold paint needed a redo and I have a fondness for the gold MBs that I see from time to time.Online bidding,it was considered ,value was their ,some times the stars dont align for it to happen .Ive never really filtered through any auctions before ,may start this as a practice.

How many here ,that have gone through the rigors of selling a car, feel it is OK for our guy to drive a car he has no intent of buying?

As a general rule, no. Depending on the situation, possibly. I don't mind showing cars to others as an educational thing, but not everyone has the time for that. What's worse is people who commit to buy things, ask you to hold them, and then never pay up and stop responding.

It was a perfect day ,almost wanted to drive out down a long curvy hilly road and take in some views ,didnt have time though ,the day was starting to fade and I headed back after cruising .. On the way back I stopped and picked a few watermelons up at a roadside stand ,the last of the summer. When I jumped back in the car , no hesitation on startup at all ,a few revs then the clutch ,good to go.At the next light I didnt recognize I was low on diesel and stopped to put some in for the owner .A few snacks and a dollar for gas and Im back again on the road ,a perfect day.Only cost me a dollar and a troll fee and sometime to read this message..
Tire kicker ,not me ,bought and sold 20 different models ,key word sold ,alot of tire lickers out their ,hang your sign on someone else.
Past threads ,ready to read something else,or delete .delete .

Let me explain an auction ,To bid at an auction you have to be there at the time or have access online .2 hrs of opportunity here ,didnt get the link I guess.PROXIBID -AUCTION HOUSE.You rarely get to drive anything being auctioned ,I showed up a few days ahead and was able to take a 5 MINUTE DRIVE with a rather nice owner who shooked my hand as we talked Mercedes .I made an offer but when an auction has the item its been logged he explained ,its really in their court to sell.I made efforts but it wasnt to be .Family 1ST.
