turbo to nonturbo

I have a 1984 300td with a dead engine. it is a gray market vehicle so the engine is non turbo. I bought a good running turbo 300d engine figuring that I could make the necessary changes. From what I understand the pumps are different and also compression is slightly higher on turbo engine at least according to the haynes manual. the other part is the self leveling pump, there is no real bracket on the new engine but there is a bolt covering an oil hole. wondering if it is possible to attach the leveling pump to this engine and also will removing the turbo be workable. the donor engine comes from a 1983 300d sedan. any help, views, opinions will be appreciated. thanks

You pretty much need a complete wagon engine if you want it to run right. Non wagon heads won't take the leveling pump.

As for the self leveling pump, I have an electric fan motor I am pretty sure I can rig up to run the pump. The other problem is what will the engine run like without the turbo. Can a turbo engine be converted easily to run without the turbo. I am sure the performance will be down but not concerned about that much really. Just want to know it will run dependably.

You can simulate how the engine will run without a turbo by disconnecting the boost line to the ALDA on top of the IP.
