I am the proud owner of two 123 Diesels, a 1977 with a 1981 engine (241,000 miles) and a 1983 240D I am rebuilding, thanks to reading Larry Bible's experience.

I recently found a 1981 280E that is just like our beloved diesels, except for the powerplant. The car has only 66,000 miles.

The owner is asking between 3 and 4K for the car, which is pristine.

Does this make sense? The trans is an auto, but I can see changing it to a 240D four speed.

If the engine is a mess, I bet I could convert it to diesel power.

What do you all think? Pass or make a bid?
