1985 300CD: New chassis seal that door window doesn't t fit into
So, I've dutifully combed through the DIY links here but found nothing.
1985 300CD. Last year, I replaced the door *CHASSIS* rubber seals. These are *NOT* the seals that fit into the doors. I know, there are lots of links here about those. Mine are fine, thank you very much. ![]() I am referring to the rubber seals (one on each side) that cost the ransom of 3 kings from M-B and that fit into the chassis starting adjacent to the dashboard, up along the roof line and over the front door window (driver or passenger), over the rear quarter window and then disappear. The front 24" or so are covered in black fuzzy material...probably accounts for 1 of the kings ransoms. Ok. I was as careful doing this job as a proud mama or papa would be with a newborn and all went well. Well, except for one thing, of course... The passenger door shuts beautifully. Firm and with a tight seal that would make a M-B engineer proud. As for the driver door, well, you see, if you shut it firmly, it will shut, but the top of the window will *NOT* slide under the lip of the seal. The top of the window gets hung up on that lip. If I push on the window, it will snap under the lip. Yes, yes, the driver door has been closed far more times than the passenger door. Perhaps the hang of the door is the issue? One would think though that if anything, the door would sag, not lift to make the window hang up on the lip of the seal. I have carefully scoured the Factory Service Manual for a way to adjust the electric window regulator but there appears to be no way to regulate it. Am I misinformed? So, new chassis seal and the top of the driver door window (being in the fully up position) will not slide under the seal. And oh yes, I have quadruple-checked that the seal is properly installed into the chassis. At least it appears to be. Anyone encounter this problem? Anyone solve this problem? Any ideas?
